American Legion Post 200 4600 Legion Lane, Hampstead, MD 21074 (410) 239-8082 – Email Hampsteadpost200@gmail.com September – November 2011Commander’s Message Legion Family: Well, summer is here and it sure has been hot, hot, hot. The Convention in Ocean City went well for the Post and our delegates. We brought home to the Post a membership award, a historian book award, and our sponsor to Boys State made Governor of Boys State and spoke at the Convention to all the Legionnaires. It was a good time for all. There is a lot going on at the Post with events such as an Auxiliary bus trip, an Auxiliary Luau, and a Chicken Feed. Be sure to check your calendars for the dates, and come out and support your Post. The new officers of all units are in place, and I am looking forward to a good year working with them all. I want to say thanks to them for their hard work and dedication. Also, I want to thank everyone for the great past year we had. I could not do my job without all of your help, from the officers to the volunteers, and our employees. It is all of you who make this Post a great place to come to and be proud of. Thanks. Jerry Reed wanted to say thanks to all who volunteered, sponsored, donated and participated in this year’s Golf Tournament. It was a huge success and he as well as the Post appreciate your involvement in this event. We have been painting and cleaning up, so the Post is looking better all the time. Thank you Mary Ann and Bob Schestag. We will be voting on an amendment to our by-laws at the October meeting, so please come out. The amendment is to pay our County dues to the County by the second meeting of the year. The County has already changed their by-laws to state that all dues must be paid by the Post by the second meeting of the year, or they will not be able to vote or nominate anyone at the meetings. I am putting this in our newsletter so all members are notified. Now that the business is out of the way, we still have calendars available and they are retro active back to January 1. This will be good until the Calendar Feed in October. Again, I am looking forward to another good year, and I hope to see you at the Post. Commander – Richard W. Hess
From the First Vice/Bar Chairman: I want to congratulate Commander Hess for a good job this past year and I’m looking forward to another good year. Check the calendar for upcoming events this fall. On Sunday, October 16th from 1 – 5 pm we will be having a Chicken Fry in the new pavilion with the band, Aspen Run playing some wonderful music for us. See me for tickets. Don’t forget, if you haven’t brought in your picture to put on our Veteran’s Christmas tree in December, you can do so at any time. Just leave your picture with your name, rank, and branch of service and dates of service in an envelope at the bar and we will do the rest. Please let us know if you need the picture returned to you and we will make a copy and return your original. This year we will have our free Veterans Day Buffet Dinner on Thursday, November 10th, from 4:30 to 7 pm, so be sure to stop by and let us show you our appreciation for your service and sacrifice. Come in to the lounge and check the message board from time to time to keep updated on things that are happening at the Post. Marvin Frush, 410-374-4466 First Vice/Bar Chairman |
